ACCESSIBILITY FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
At Brunswick Street Mission, we strive to provide services and resources in a way that respects the dignity and independence of all community members. We also commit to giving people with disabilities the same opportunity to access our services and resources and allowing them to benefit from the same services in the same place and in a similar way as other users. If a barrier to accessing our services and resources cannot be removed, we will seek alternative ways to access the services and resources.
Assistive Devices – We will ensure that our staff is trained and familiar with various assistive devices (provided) that may be used by stakeholders with disabilities while accessing our goods or services.
Persons with disabilities can obtain services or resources using their own assistive devices. If an assistive device may pose a risk to the health and safety of the stakeholder or others on the premises, Brunswick Street Mission will accommodate the stakeholder by providing an alternative where possible.
Communication – We will communicate with people in ways that consider their disability. We offer several methods of communication, which will promptly be provided to our stakeholders as requested.
Please ask us if you require a specific communication method, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Service Animals – We welcome all service animals.
Support Persons – A person with a disability whom a support person supports will be allowed to have that person accompany them while accessing our services. Support persons accompanying someone with a disability are permitted the same access as the person they are accompanying. At no time will a person with a disability whom a support person accompanies be prevented from accessing their support person while receiving Food Bank Canada services.
If you are unsure if you can access Brunswick Street Mission services, you are asked to contact us at mission@brunswickstreetmission.org or telephone 902-423-4605.
Community food organizations must ensure their facility is accessible to all individuals seeking services. This includes but is not limited to:
· Individuals in a wheelchair
· Visually impaired
o Using a mobility cane
o Service Animals
· Individuals with a walker
· Individuals with a support person
When the physical locations are unsuitable for an individual with a disability, a separate procedure must be implemented. This accessibility procedure will ensure that the individual can receive the services provided.
If you cannot enter the location of Brunswick Street Mission, you are asked to call 902-423-4605 to receive support. Support will be brought to the individual, and their needs will be accessed by staff or volunteers. Brunswick Street Mission is committed to helping all individuals regardless of their ability.
