The Trusteeship Program is designed to assist people who have moderate support needs in budgeting and bill payment. The Trustee provides financial support by accepting responsibility for an individual’s income, and insuring that the costs for basic needs such as rent and electricity are always paid first. The person will then receives any remaining income for groceries and other expenses.
By building positive relationships with vendors including NSP and many apartment rental companies, the Trustee has proven especially effective in negotiating repayment plans on behalf of clients with significant arrears. Relationships with Landlords can also help find and keep housing for individuals who are considered “high-risk” from a landlord’s perspective.
In addition to financial management, the Trustee can, if asked, provide support with budgeting, housing, crisis management, life skills etc. The Trustee has knowledge of and relationships with related service providers and community supports, and can often help navigate barriers to improve client access to these supports.
