Volunteers
Countless volunteers
help
in the
office, the food and clothing banks, serving breakfasts, at Christmas,
during fundraisers, and in every other imaginable way. Each one,
however short or long their involvement, is critical to achieving the
goals of the Mission.
Participants
Our participants are
those
who struggle
with poverty. Many are homeless, others are at risk of homelessness.
There are individuals, couples, and families with children. Some work,
others are on assistance, and others on disability or pension support.
Their backgrounds are incredibly varied but what they have in common is
that their present day is a struggle.
Some conditions seem
almost
synonymous
with poverty; mental illness, addictions, physical disabilities,
criminal record, and violence are common everyday realities. But
resourcefulness, dignity, hope, humour, and caring are also everyday
conditions, and with some support and a second (and third and
fourth...)
chance, many of our participants are able to move on.
